Sedation Dentistry

Charlotte, North Carolina Oral and IV Sedation Dentistry

At Indian Trail Dental Associates serving residents of Charlotte, North Carolina and surrounding areas, we offer oral and IV sedation dentistry to reduce anxiety and make the dental experience more comfortable for our patients.

What is sedation dentistry?

Sedation Dentistry PatientsIn the past, some people chose to live with a cavity or a missing tooth rather than endure a visit to the dentist's office. Many of these same people are now realizing that it is possible to go to the dentist and enjoy total relaxation through oral and IV sedation dentistry. At our Charlotte, North Carolina area office, sedation dentistry has helped fearful patients and people unable to sit for long periods of time return to the dentist's chair with confidence to achieve the healthy smiles that they deserve.

At our practice we offer both oral and intravenous (IV) sedation:

Oral Sedation: A member of our office staff will give you a small pill to take one hour before your procedure. By the time you and your escort arrive at our facility, you will be relaxed and a bit drowsy. Upon your arrival, a member of our team will escort you to a comfortable room, cover you with a warm blanket and place you on a monitor to keep track of your vital signs. When you are completely relaxed, Dr. Holmes and his staff will complete your dental treatment and release you to your escort, who will take you home. You will have virtually no memory of the procedure.

Intravenous (IV Sedation): Sedatives are delivered directly into the bloodstream intravenously. The doctor can precisely control the effects of the drug with this form of sedation and it is, by far, the preferred method for more fearful patients.

It is very important that you make arrangements to have someone escort you home on the day of your procedure.

Am I a good candidate for sedation dentistry?

If you are in good health and experience fear or anxiety over dental treatment, if you have limited time to complete significant dental work, if you have difficulty sitting for long periods of time, or if you are in need of oral surgery, you may be a good candidate for sedation dentistry.
